Tools Redact PDF
Redact PDF — without uploading it anywhere
Draw a box over anything sensitive — names, account numbers, whole pages — and PDF Guard removes it from the file itself. Your file never leaves this tab.

How to redact a PDF
Three steps, all inside your browser tab. Works with Wi-Fi off.
-
Open your PDF
Drop it above or click Choose PDF. The file renders right here — nothing is sent anywhere.
-
Mark what's sensitive
Drag boxes over text, images, or entire pages. Find & redact matches every occurrence of a name or number — with a full keyboard alternative.
-
Download the clean file
PDF Guard rewrites the file without the marked content. What's gone is gone — verify it yourself with copy-paste.
True redaction, not a black sticker
Most "redaction" tools draw a rectangle on top of your text. The words are still in the file — anyone can select, copy, or extract them. PDF Guard removes the data itself.
- Content under the box is deleted from the PDF's content streams
- Hidden text layers, annotations, and metadata are scrubbed too
- The original file on your disk stays untouched

Copy-paste finds nothing — the data is removed
Try it: select the black bar on the left and copy it. That's the difference.
Privacy you can check, not just believe
We don't ask for trust. The architecture makes uploading impossible — and you can verify that in under a minute.
01
Turn off Wi-Fi
Open a PDF, then go offline. Redact, preview, download — everything keeps working, because the app is already in your tab.
02
Watch the network tab
Open DevTools → Network and run a redaction. You'll see 0 requests containing your document.
03
Nothing to breach
No upload queue, no server copy, no "deleted after 2 hours" promise. There is no server that ever holds your file.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really local? How can I be sure?
Yes. The editor is a self-contained app that runs in your browser tab. Two quick checks: open a PDF, turn off Wi-Fi, and keep working — or open DevTools → Network while you redact and watch it make zero requests with your document. The green privacy pill in the corner tracks this live.
Can redacted content be recovered?
No. PDF Guard deletes the marked text, images, and hidden layers beneath each box, then rewrites the file. Copy-paste, search, and text extraction find nothing. Keep your original — redaction can't be undone on the new copy.
How much does it cost?
Redact PDF is part of the free tier: Free. No sign-up. No daily limits. Pro ($10/yr) adds advanced tools like OCR — and you'll always see what's Pro before you start a file, never after your work is done.
More tools, same rule: local only
Your file is already open — chaining tools is free, because nothing re-uploads.
